Response to Text in Action Through RACES

RACES (Restate, Answer, Cite Evidence, Explain, Summarize), the acronym for  response to text, is in full action at Barnes Elementary School.

Nicole Grilli's 4th graders are scaffolded (Restate, Answer and Summarize is done for them)as they must Cite evidence for, and Explain the main idea of an article about good posture. Click here for the Graphic Organizers shown.

Julie Romano's fifth graders must answer all parts of RACES as they state what kind of person Mr. Browne is from Wonder.

  1. Great work! The ability to cite evidence from a piece of literature or non-fiction text is so important for a student's successful communication through written expression.
