Scaffolding at its Finest!

Allison Hawbecker has truly mastered the art of scaffolding her ELL students!  During her biography lesson all students knew the focus for the lesson.

Students took a "book walk," paying careful attention to the text features, including the glossary which helped to activate prior knowledge.

These two sentence strips helped students to use the correct vocabulary as they each identified an obstacle and an accomplishment for Chester. This was perfect practice as these are terms students need to understand for the performance based assessment in the Biography Unit.

She ended her lesson as students were "sprinkling in the objective" of the lesson: "I can explain the events in a biography using sequence words."
