Scarecrow Artists and Writers!

Second graders in Kerry Yekelchik and Dinah Needham's classroom can not only can identify the subject and predicate of a sentence, they can also create their own descriptive thoughts about a scarecrow!

Everyone got to first design their own unique scarecrow.


They then created their descriptive sentence to describe their own "crow scarer." The last step was to identify the subject and predicate by underlining each in a different color. What a great way to integrate art into writing! Check out some individual authors and artists below!




















































Students now have a "Powerful Words" wall to refer to. Not only that, but it's divided by parts of speech!
