Young Writers Shine!

Fourth grade "authors" in Erin Guadagno and James Kelly's classroom are proving that writing can be more than just an assignment. They are truly enjoying the activities from both Learning Experiences 1 and 2 from the Grade 4 Writing Unit of Study.

I love how the Bedhead Anchor Chart is on display for students to "spruce up" their word choice, using Margie Palatini's (the author) published words!

Take a peak at their own Bedhead stories!

When it came time to introduce figurative language from Learning Experience Two, Erin expressed how much the students loved using similes in their writing. She provided them with the following spooky, opening sentence as they had to complete the rest of the paragraph adding at least one more effective simile:
As timid as a mouse, I crept slowly around the corner of the eerie haunted house, when to my surprise I noticed the most peculiar Jack-O-Lantern!
Check out why they had so much fun!

  1. Great idea and the writing exemplars shown show rigorous but attainable expectations to set for students in this 4th grade classroom. When students are engaged with an academic task within their classroom their school days are enriching and rewarding. Thanks for sharing Erin and James!
