Dawn Forte's students worked on creating a didactic display of skulls for "The Days of the Dead," a celebration in Mexico and parts of the U.S.A, It occurs on November 1st and 2nd. The family celebrates the memory of the dearly departed with love in their heart remembering and honoring the dead. It is a happy time. The families make favorite foods, drinks, and gifts and gather in the graveyard to camp out overnight! Google recently had their art reflect the holiday, and the students pointed that out to me! With this art lesson the students at Brown Ave. and Thornton used tools and materials such as paint, chalk pastel, and colored pencil to create a skull specifically using the element of pattern on the skull and repeated that pattern in the background for theme and variation.
