Allison Hawbecker came up with a brilliant idea for having her ELL students explain the character trait they identified for Amelia Earhart after citing evidence from the text. As seen below, she had students brainstorm what it means to be heroic.
As witnessed below, students used some of the words in red to explain their reasoning. This is a great strategy for all students!
