Morning Meeting Message

Morning Meeting Message

What a terrific idea for incorporating students into a morning message! Tess Arico creates a story based on each student in both hers and Nicole Carroll's kindergarten classroom, and then has students complete the activities that follow. Students look forward to seeing who the "mystery person" will be each day. Read below to get a first hand account of what she does.

First we started with 3 simple sentences that I read to the students and then I would ask them the questions that relate to the story and they could use the pictures next to the question to help them answer the question.

See Lily's Story by clicking Here

Then we changed it by taking away the pictures and adding their picture with a "Magic Door." They have to guess who they think the story is about first and then we check if they are correct by moving the magic door to see who is behind it. Then I ask the 3 questions, but they do not have the picture clues to help them. See Xavier's Message below.

Finally, the most recent story we are doing during morning meeting is a longer story with more details, but still has the student's picture and the magic door. In these stories the students have to find the mistakes. The mistakes I make include, not putting a capital letter in their name, I leave a sight word out and I leave punctuation (usually a period) out. After I read the story, the students find the mistakes and then we answer the questions. See Jason's message below.

What a great way to tie Social/Emotion Learning into reading. These Kindergartners must wait in anticipation to see the featured student!
